How Are We Different?
Body & Brain is the culmination of a curious clinician-patient-athlete who continues to learn and adapt. Due to Christina’s diverse life experiences, we honor individuals’ uniqueness and go beyond standard physical therapy.
Christina Gonzalez Kurland
PT, DPT, CST-T

Christina is from Long Island, New York, and is a former Division 1 collegiate soccer player. She attended American University in Washington, DC, where she played four years as a midfielder and earned a bachelor's degree in International Development in 2007. After completing her undergraduate work, she returned to New York, where she earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Stony Brook University in 2011.
She began her practice as an outpatient physical therapist on Long Island's North Shore. During her first five years of practice, she trained extensively in Functional Manual Therapy with the Institute of Physical Art.
In 2016, a combination of old and new injuries led to the deterioration of her health. Unable to practice what she loved, she paused her career as a physical therapist and moved to South Florida to start her healing process.

After losing her identity as an athlete, physical therapist, and independent individual, Christina felt that traditional medicine had failed her. But each rock bottom brought new educational experiences. Ultimately, her drive to improve her health opened the doors to highly specialized healthcare providers, philosophies, and modalities beyond traditional physical therapy.

While unable to practice physical therapy,Christina focused on coaching, yoga, and holistic health, immersing herself in classes, conferences, and books. In 2018, she became certified as a Health and Well-being Coach by Wellcoaches and completed a 200-hour teacher-training program in the subtle-energy practice of Kali Natha Yoga.

Once Christina resumed her manual therapy practice, she sought to incorporate the therapy methods that had helped her. She continues her studies with the Upledger Institute for CranioSacral Therapy and at the Barral Institute for Visceral and Neural Manipulation. In January of 2024, Christina received the CranioSacral Therapy Techniques level certification.
In her free time, Christina enjoys spending time with her dogs and husband, as well as mountain biking, hiking, traveling, and discovering new varieties of fruits and veggies. Her current joy is nurturing and training her rescue dogs, watching them discover themselves.
